Abstract

|
In 1940, eosinophilic granuloma of bone was independently described by Otani and Ehrlich and Lichtenstein and Jaffe. Subsequently, the basic pathological similarity of eosinophilic granuloma, Letterer-Siwe disease and Hand-Schu¢©ller-Christian disease was stressed to suggest the term "Histiocytosis X" by Lichtenstein in 1953.
We experienced two cases of eosinophilic granuloma confined to the bone, of which one, 14-year-old boy, was involved at the right posterior fouth rib and the other, 10-year-old girl, right mandible; all were exciscd successfully with simple surgical intervention and were not supplemented with any other treatment such as X-ray therapy and corticosteroids but they should be required further observation for their pulmonary status simulating mild infiltration of histiocytosis X.
